5th Year NYCFC Get 1st US Open Cup win

By Sean McCaffery, June 13, 2019

NCFC, coached by the interm USMNT coach, David Sarachan had already matched up wth 15 MLS teams about half an MLS season, in this one of the oldest soccer competitions in the nation, they were not up to the task as they dropped this one 4-0 at St. John's Universitys' Belson Stadium. They had a great chance early as a short corner played into Steven Miller put NYCFC GK Brad Stuver to the test. After that, the result was never in doubt despite the many new pieces on the field for NYCFC then began to gel far better. Taty Castellanos seemed to be key to what the home team was trying to do as he was fed the ball again and again, he did make it to the score sheet with a late second assist, see our interview with him in Spanish on #SoccerLongIslandMagazine. Maxi Morales, the nights' captain was busy not as a point man in this game but in a much more supporting role, bringing the ball up his left side again and again to play it into the middle of the penalty area, getting the last assist of the night for his efforts. At 25', a deflected shot by a defender found the back of the net after a flurry of shots by Taty & Jesus Medina. Medina would come to put one away as the first half came to a close as he took a ball from Tony Rocha and sent it home. Keaton Parks who this time last year was with Benefica in Portugal was causing NCFC fits all night and drove the first of his brace home from a headed ball sent in by Tores, his first as a member of NYCFC. Just under 25' later, the big Texan struck again, a ball played into the near post from Moralez was muscled in by Keaton. Post game, we paid a quick visit with the NCFC coach, and see our interviews with Coach Dome and the young ones of NYCFC, Daniel Bedoya & Justin Haak both getting starts and yellow cards on #SoccerLongIslandMagazine.
