Barlow parleys a great cross from Royer into the win, 1-0 over ATL

By Sean McCaffery, May 19, 2019

What was the story of the game, the 35' Red Card to Long Islander, Parker, the shutout streak by the visiting Atlanta United, NY seeking revenge of their season ending loss to the visitors, no I say. Their preserverence to stay strong all game not taking chances, keeping a stout defense even after Ivan left injured for yet another Long Islander, Sean Nealis. NY held the ball well throughout the 2nd half to kill time, laid back a bit but not too much, team defense swarming every time, waiting for that one chance to strike. Great ball movement in the middle third of the field then Royer got some space and played it over the top far post to a player who would send his third touch of the game into the net, beyond Guzan at the near post for a well placed header and what would make the 3 points on the evening. There was no doubting that header from Thomas would go in . Nealis just gave his jersey to a player with a BW Gotschee top. Robles continues to pile up thoses blank sheets. Yes the game was rough, that was well anticipated by all given how last year ended and this one began, neither team quite yet finding their form, perhaps until now with RBNY getting theirs. That will show itself on Wed., college night, with $10 tickets avail., on a short rest after playing 59' a man down and the next one down Parker after this one began without Aaron Long and much of the game was played without either. They must retain their composure, Lawrence was lucky not to get a well deserved yellow in the closing was it minutes or seconds following a good, hard, clean tackle with no call as his victim was complaining, simulating the hand held time clock and that the player was a baby after gloating over him following the tackle not wise. A well earned win in a hard fought game will not be lost on either side today and will not be forgotten by Atlanta come the next game come July 7 in Hotlanta.
