18th Annual Bob Schrager Long Island Cup

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association
August 12, 2011-On Labor Day weekend, Oceanside United will host the 18th Annual Bob Schrager Long Island Cup tournament on September 3 and 4. Bob was a tireless Oceanside United volunteer and his family will once again be there to hand out trophies.
180 teams, both boys and girls squads, from the United States and Canada will be having fun. The small-sided games for the younger age groups (Under-9 to Under-11) will be played at Oceanside Park and Oceanside Middle School in the South Shore soccer hamlet while Under-12 to Under-17 play 11 vs. 11 at Speno Park in East Meadow and Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale.
“The Bob Schrager Long Island Cup guarantees games over two days––two games Saturday, two games on Sunday with no Monday play, and most teams in and out within three hours each day,” commented tournament director Neil Bloom. “There are three referees for all Under-12 to Under-17 games. Awards for first through third place, plus the prestigious Long Island Cup trophy to first place coaches. Great competition, the tourney committee pride ourselves in forming level-appropriate brackets. There are concessions and other activities throughout the day. Our tourney is reasonably priced and very close to some of Long Island's most beautiful beaches as well as Manhattan.”
Admission to this Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association tournament is free. The local teams playing use the tourney to prepare for the upcoming Long Island Junior Soccer League Fall Season. For more information, contact tourney director Bloom at nbloom@shankerlaw.com
