Hofstra Women's Soccer Team Falls To Drexel, 3-0
Philadelphia, Pa. - Drexel scored three second-half goals, including the last two in the final 10 minutes, as the Hofstra women's soccer team lost, 3-0, to the Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Sunday afternoon.
Alyssa Findlay opened the scoring in the 65th minute and Courtney Wylie scored both of her goals just 5:45 apart to provide the insurance markers. Drexel improved to 10-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in CAA play. Hofstra fell to 8-5 and 4-1 in league play.
Wylie assisted on Findlay's goal, giving her five points on the day.
Hofstra generated multiple chances, though Drexel goalkeeper Eve Badana was flawless while making eight saves to post the shutout. The Pride, led by freshman Leah Galton's game-high four shots, registered 13 total shots, including four attempts on net in both the first and second halves.
Galton (Harrogate, England) fired a shot on target in the 63rd minute that Badana stopped. Less than two minutes later, Findlay scored off a one-timer from the top of the box, blasting a shot from Gabby Dixon. Wylie set up the play with the initial play to put Drexel ahead.
Badana made another save, this one by sophomore forward Caylin Dudley (Grasonville, MD), right after the goal, and the Dragons capitalized with another scoring strike at 83:05. Hofstra was called for a foul in the box, setting up Wylie's penalty-kick goal.
With just 1:10 left in regulation, Wylie scored again off a free kick to make it 3-0.
Eight Hofstra players tallied shots for the Pride. Sophomore Lulu Echeverry (East Meadow, N.Y.) had two, joining Dudley (two) and Galton as the only Hofstra players with multiple shots.
Hofstra saw its five-game winning streak snapped in being shut out for the first time this season. The Pride will next be in action on Friday with a home game against George Mason. Game time at Hofstra Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
