New Home, New Head Coach for Sky Blue

By Sean McCaffery, December 17, 2019

Not a surprise as the team did well in the last few games following her being named as interim HC in Sept., Freya Coomb is now at the helm of the local NWSL team, now to play at Red Bull Arena. Before her appointment, she had been the Dir. of Scouting and Develpment Academy Coach with NY Soccer Club.

SBFC Owner Rep. and spouse to the NJ Gov., Tammy Murphy informed, "Freya is extremely talented and her passion for soccer is infectious. Freya's undeniable work ethic made our decision easy. She earned the trust and respect of out players quickly."

A 5 year vet of what is now the Barclays FA Women's Super League in England, with Reading FC, she then coached there for some 7 years, was the Dir. of Coaching at their Center of Excellence and as the Women's Development Team Manager. Currently she is licensed with an USSF B as well as an UEFA B, expecting to complete her USSF A shortly.

SBFC GM Alyse LaHue stated, "We are thrilled to continue the work we began with Freya this past season. She is the embodiment of the culture we're striving to develop."

For her part, Coach had this to say, " I'm extremely humbled and grateful to management, ownship, the players and the Sky Blue family for giving me the opportuinty to be the head coach. We laid a strong foundation for success last year."

The rest of the coaching staff and some players will be announced soon.

Given their not so positive recent past, it is worth noting that Sky Blue is now 2 steps ahead of NYCFC and will remain so for at least this season, they have a coach and a soccer specific stadium.
