New Members added to the Techical Staff @ USMNT

By Sean McCaffery, January 17, 2019

As stated in a conference call, USMNT HC Gregg Berhalter has begun to fill in the voids on his staff. Just as his appointment has been subject of many questions due to the position his brother holds in the federation, these picks may very well do the same. Josh Wolff, a former member of the USMNT is now an asst. while Steve Tashjian is now the Head Performance Expert with Darcy Norman tapped as Movement & Conditioning Coach. Wolff & Tashjian had both filled the same roles for Gregg with the Crew. BJ Callaghan out of the Union has also come on, he had been under USMNT GM, Earnie Stewart at Philly. An outsider, Darcy Norman from the German MNT is now the with them, he had been the German's Performance Data Analyst & Fitness Rehab Coach. Berhalter had this to say of the selections, "In puting together the staff, we looked for coaches with considerable backgrounds in 4 different areas: World Cups, Concacaf, MLS & Europe."  With this statement he has ruled out a few continents. Earnie Stewart contributed, "From the onset, we searched for coaches that have complimentary skillsets and varied career paths." Another asst. at the Crew, Nico Estevez is to join at the same position upon receipt of his work permit. From Spain, he has a UEFA Pro LIcense and over 15 years coaching a the top levels in Spain and the US, including Valencia. Terry Boss the boss at Oregon State is serving as the GK coach for this camp. With the Crew being barely a .500 club I am not so sure how well so many of their staff will fare now at the international level, we will all know more come Jan. 27.
