Nine-Man NYCFC Hold Red Bulls To 1:1 Draw

New York City FC (NYCFC), which ended the match with nine players, held visiting NY Red Bulls to a 1:1 draw, during league’s Hudson River Derby, before crowd of 30,139, at Bronx’s Yankee Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Red Bulls (15-6-4, 49 pts.) got on the board first in the 37th minute with a tally from English forward Bradley Wright-Phillips off a cross from Austrian international forward Daniel Royer.

In 40th minute, NYCFC (14-6-6, 48 pts) was reduced to 10 men after Spanish midfielder Eloi Amagat was sent off by Referee Ted Unkel.

In the second half, Spanish international forward David Villa scored equalizer for NYCFC off headed assist by Norwegian international forward Jo Inge Berget in the 52nd minute.

NYCFC once again lost another player after Ghana international midfielder Ebenezer was sent off in 72nd minute.

The league result also extended NYCFC’s unbeaten streak at home to 15 games.

Side Note

To the delight of the fans in attendance, Blue Man Group made a surprised appearance at Yankee Stadium during the Hudson River Derby joining Third Rail of NYCFC Supporters Group in section 236 during the first half.
