New York Red Bulls Head Coach Sandro Schwarz

On Lewis Morgan…

He made a great job. He was directly in the game, in the defensive behavior and also a very important goal in the second half after the transition.

On the defensive mentality, especially toward the end of the match…

It was a great, great mentality, how we defended and especially in the last moments, the last situations in an away game. … But the whole team did a great job in the mentality, to get the result, to get these three points. But, we can improve some things, especially when we control the ball and we are very dominant and when we have very good situations to counter press. … To get these results, with this fighting spirit, this is what we need.

On winning his first MLS match…

This is great. It feels good. After two away games, to have four points, that gives us confidence to get these results and to continue our process.

On coming to Red Bull Arena to play the Home Opener…

Now we have to prepare for our first game in our stadium, for our supporters. This is very clear. We have to continue and we can be satisfied today, but we have to work hard in the next week. We are looking forward to playing now in our stadium, with our supporters.

New York Red Bulls Midfielder Lewis Morgan

On his first goal since returning from injury…

Yeah, I feel amazing. Obviously to be back, first and foremost. The goal helped us win the game. That's the most important thing. It was special to come back. I've been out for over a year and, obviously played some minutes last year, but I kept re-injuring myself. It's always good to start the season off well. I think we've done that. It is my little sister's birthday today, so I scored a goal on her birthday and that makes it extra special.

On recovering from his injury…

Yeah, it was really rough. I had some really serious injuries that are pretty much unheard of. So, it was a learning curve for me. It was probably the first time in my career that I’ve really missed time like that. So, it was really tough mentally to come through. That's what the support staff here are for. All the medical staff that helped me get to this point has been massive. It’s obviously been a long year. For me, I feel like I've got some time to make up for. Hopefully tonight that can be the start of it.

On playing with this group…

Just playing with this team, in general, is amazing. After spending so much time out, to be back out there and helping the team and suffering with them as well the end of that game. It’s never going to go your own way for 90 minutes, especially away in another conference. We had to suffer through the last 15 minutes and it's just a testament to the kind of feeling of being out there with the boys instead of watching them home on the TV a is an amazing feeling. So being out there playing with all the guys is amazing feeling.
