U-15 USMNT goes Gonza

The new HC of the U-15NT of the boy' in the US has been announced, Gonzalo Segares, he brings with him his vast history in the game. Just after culminating his playing career back in 2014, he entered the realm of coaching with the USSF as he was already in his 4th year with a Chicagoland youth club, FC United, serving as an asst. academy dir. and HC of the U-14 & 16/17's. He had been with the Chicago Fire and the Coasta Rican NT as a player, now  holding an A license from the USSF. Still only 37, he had over 250 games with the Fire over a decade, taking the 2006 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup title, 19 caps with the Ticos and getting them all but into the 2010 World Cup as they dropped the Concacaf Gold Cup championship game.

Earnie Stewart informed "We're very pleased to have Gonzalo join US Soccer to lead our U-15 Boy's National Team. Gonzalo has transitioned well to coaching."

A 3rd round draft pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft following a stellar time with VA Commonwealth Univ. He was an All-American and a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy in his last year as a Ram, 2x he got the nod as Defensive Player of the Year from his conference. He learned his game via the widly successful Saprissa Academy in Costa Rica.

Gonzalo added "I'm very excited , it's a privilege to work with US Soccer. I get to work with the best players in the United States at this age group."

This Spring will be the opening of the new chapter in his career with the U-15BNT in camp, they are later off to Italy and the well repsected Torne delle Nazioni.  He had been with the Fire Academy U-15's in 2015-'16 and an asst. with the U-14 & 18's then to where he also is now, FC United since 2016. He was an asst. as the Fire U-18's brought back the 2015 Academy Championship as well as a trio of years as a volunteer asst. at Depaul.
