US 13 US Virgin Islands 0 in Concacaf U-20 Championship

By Sean McCaffery, November 4, 2018

No, a field goal was not missed, but 40 shots did, this was the score. In comparison, the full USMNT suffered its greatest defeat in the World Cup back in 1934 at the hands of Italy 7-1 while overall it is in 1948 when they lost to Norway, 11-0. A goal scored just less than every 7 minutes, with 55 shots is I feel, a bit excessive and a horrible ratio to boot. Although 3 subs were used, I wonder how the international soccer community will take this, in coming games should the USMNT have a game where they are not doing so well, might the opposition pour it on as a result of this. I will not get into who scored etc. as I feel this is poor form. Your in the top position, slim if any chance of the next team, TNT catching you for top of this part of the Championship and they are your next opponent, so you do directly control how that goes. Had the US beaten the Islands by a more respectable score and lose facing TNT there goes that top spot, we shall see how this plays out on Tues. from IMG in Bradenton at 7:45 p.m. on UDN & the app, ConcacafGo. Yesterday's game was not on Univision Deportes but in it's place was soccer from Mexico? TNT yesterday beat Puerto RIco by a similar score as did the US, 5-1. To his credit, coach Ramos did make wholesale changes to his lineup, 9 in total from the opening game and he now sits at 14-3-2 all time in the Concacaf Championship. I still await his being appointed the HC of the USMNT later this month.
