The US hopes to play like its 2008 in Futsal

By Sean McCaffery, February 24, 2020

With my last team, it was known as FIFA 5 A Side and the US was a top team in the game, with many players from my Louisville Thunder '86-'87 and a Captain America out of Adelphi later in Mike Windischmann. Now it has been well over a decade since the US last qualified for the Futsal World Cup in 2008. Just who will make the roster?, that is to be determined as they attend Futsal WInter Week in Croatia. But first, Group D of the 2020 Concacaf Futsal Championship is set. May 1-10 in Guatemala with El Salvador with the next game TBD with Nicaragua or Puerto Rico. The draw was just held im Miami at the Concacaf HQ, four teams will come out of these Concacaf games. Before all this it is off to Porec and a duo of games for the USFMNT with games facing Slovenia Feb 28 & 29 during their trip from Feb. 25-March 8. the Futsal Week Winter Cup. It is during these games that HC Dusan Jakica and staff will get their team determined. Jakica informed "The international games in Croatia are going to be critical for us in preparing out final roster for World Cup qualifying We've looked at over 500 players."

There are a number of local players, Alan Acevedo & Julian Escobar of Hicksville & Joey Tavenese Jr. of Garden City. Hicksville has contributed many pros in soccer including current New York Red Bull Tim Parker, California Strikers United, NISA West titlests President Michael Collins, and Jackie Shannon of the Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame, their next event is Saturday.
