USNT is beyond perfect at 0 goals allowed and 18 scored in Concacaf play

By Sean McCaffery, October 11, 2018

In a truly dominant fashion, the USWNT swept through Group Play in these games that will determine what nations will go on to represent our region at the World Cup, one team will have a play in with Argentina. Group A was decimated by the USA last night as it rained water and goals with both Alex Morgan and Rose Lavelle netted braces, Horn, Dunn (of RVC) and Heath also tallied, the frame of the TNT net may still be shaking from all the times the US pinged it. Next game is Sunday 7p.m. CT in Frisco TX at Toyota Park, the home of MLS side FC Dallas, where just days later the US Soccer Hall of Fame opens. As we wrote, early in the game, the better part of it was in the offensive third of the US team however for all but the last 5 minutes it was 1-0 on a Morgan 9th minute goal in the first half, then the dam broke. In those 5 minutes a trio of goals broke the game wide open, in 2 minutes Lavelle had a pair and Crystal Dunn of Long Island capped the scoring at the end of the half from her fullback position. Morgan was the biggest culprit hitting the frame 5 times not including the 2 that sent one of her goals home as the team did it 6 times in total. An astounding 59-0 edge in shots, yes that is right just under 1 shot per 1.5 minutes of play barely a third, 22 were on goal as the TNT keeper made 15 saves. I hope to see her playing in the NCAA next year. Just 4 minutes into the 2nd stanza, Lindsey Horan hit, then a minute later Morgan gained her 2nd, scant minutes later Tobin Heath got on the scoresheet with the final tally. Knowing pregame they were on to the knockout round did not dampen the teams drive nor did the driving rains, the last games out of Group B will determine their first opponent in TX.

Player info:

Alex Morgan- had her 2nd brace of the tourney, her 21st overall, now with 94 goals in 149 appearances, the 29 year old is alone in 7th place in scoring, 3rd in braces behind Wambach and Hamm,                             21 goals in her last 22 games, 14 in 2018, the most in a year since '14 for the USWNT.

Rose Lavelle-  her 2nd brace now with 5 goals in 16 games.

Tobin Heath-   2 assists give her 6 on the year tying Horan, her 6th start of '18 and her 5th goal now with 23 to go with her 140th cap only at 22nd place, amazing.

Lindsey Horan-lucky 13th straight start, 3rd goal on the year, now with 6 assist for '18 and 7 goals overall.

Crystal Dunn-  goal #2 on the year last one, Jan 21,  her 24th overall.

Team info:
