By Sean McCaffery, June 9, 2018

The US tops Canada 1-0 as Reilyn Turner gets the goal, her 2nd in her 2nd game for the team, in this final game of group play. She got the headed goal after subbed in the 2nd half from a corner by Katy Wiesner in the 65th minute. Reilyn was named to the team recently as Peyton Linnehan was out due to an injury. Her first goal came playing Haiti June 6, their next opponent on June 10 @ 5p.m. ET on go90.com, and UDN to secure a spot at the World Cup later this year.

Mark Carr HC of the US stated " I'm really proud of the team performance and result today, I thought we took initiative and created a lot of quality chances. But we have to do better with out finishing."  They outshot the neighbors to the north 27-8 but the 10 saves of Anna Karpenko were an obstacle. The US ends group play with an unblemished 3-0 record . Mexico, in tying Haiti pre game, 1-1 gave el Tri the #1 seed with goal differential. Next for Mexico is Canada to see who goes on to Uruguay for the Cup, the winning pair will be in and a 3rd place game will set the final of the CONCACAF reps.

The US with their relentless pressure on the ball caused may turnovers and good looks at the goal with the US all but owning the first half. The stout defense of Canada, fine work of the GK and poor finishing by the winners kept it close. In the 25th minute, Sunshine Fontes rattle the woodwork  and it got the Canadians going as they then returned the favor, as close as they would get on the day. US Central defender, Natalia Staude the lone starter in all 3 games helped limit the opponent to very little offensively.

Misc notes:

-US captain in this game as well as in the opener in the tourney on April 20, Kate Wiesner.

-11 US shots on goal to 3 for the opposition.

-Natalia Staude had 3 assists facing Bermuda.
