On LAFC…

Yeah, it's a really good team. A lot of really good players, as you mentioned. (Denis) Bouanga has been one of the best players in the league for a long time now. His ability to make the difference in any moment, score goals, set up goals, even in a game that can be going along in a way where it doesn't seem like he is doing that much or that involved, he can change the game in a moment's notice. And so we for sure have to understand how to make the game really hard on him. Obviously, Son (Heung-Min), his career, his experience, his quality speaks for itself, and so he has been a really important guy for them as well. The list of really good players in that team goes on and on. So we're excited by the challenge of going to play in that stadium against them, and we're going to be ready to be at our best.

On giving Justin Che the captain’s armband against Seattle…

Justin has established himself in a really strong way since he's come to the club. He has played really well. He is a really strong competitor. He trains with the right attitude and the right mentality every day. He finds really good ways to hold himself to high standards and to also in positive, encouraging ways, push the guys around him, and so you know it was given that we played without Emil against Seattle, that was an easy decision because Justin has earned that in a big way.

On mindset for the rest of the season…

There's a third of the season still left, so we are continuing to push ourselves to improve, to be better, to play better, to be more consistent, to find ways to take good performances and turn them into points. So the work to become a real team. That process, that road is winding up and down, and not always perfect. And so we, from the first game this year, we have tried to balance the part of looking at how we play and looking at how we can improve and looking at the performance, but do it in a way where we set ourselves up for results. It's never been about just the performance, we are competitive and doing everything that we can to accelerate the learning curve for this group, and so we feel good about the work, about the improvement, about the journey that we're on as a team, but we understand that there's more, and we have to continue to push ourselves to take all the things that we generally feel good about and make sure that we can, on even more days, walk away with the points that we deserve.

Red Bull New York Defender Devin Padelford

On making his debut for the club…

Yeah, just super excited. Also, pleasure to meet you all. I am super excited to be here. Yeah, it felt really good, obviously, first game, it was a whirlwind of a couple days getting flown into New York and then a big road trip with all of the guys. So, trying to control all that, but then just putting the football first and I was just really excited to come on and help contribute to a hard road point, and just excited to keep growing with the guys.

On upcoming match against LAFC…

Yeah, obviously, a lot of star power, and over the years they have always been a tough team to play and it is also very hard to play them at their place. I think they do a great job getting their fans into games, so I think a great thing is just being able to weather the storm early on, trying to keep the game away from our net as much as we possibly can, but they do a very good job in the transition. I think they have a lot of very dynamic attackers, so trying to limit as many transition moments would probably be best, in games that I have played them, that is where I feel they excel really well.

On the young players on the roster…

Yeah, they all seem very hardworking, very good kids. I mean, obviously, in the limited time that I have known them, but yeah, you hear around the league and you see the stuff and they are obviously very talented. Since I’ve been here that is the first thing that I have noticed. They are very talented for the age that they treat and the way they are able to produce at the level that they are playing at is super cool to see. So, I’m just excited to keep seeing how they grow and how I can provide, this is my fifth year, so if they need any help with anything, I’ll help provide in ways that if they need it, I’m there.
